Understand the crossing

Current researched itineraries travel by road, cross at Tiquina and continue to Copacabana. Ask how passengers and vehicle travel and whether the crossing ticket is separate. Keep documents and valuables with you, follow service instructions and check life jackets. This crossing is different from the later boat to Isla del Sol.

Independent ticket or excursion

With an independent ticket, you coordinate arrival, hotel and island boat. t390371 and t1484262 list round-trip La Paz transport and an island visit; the latter advertises 16 hours. On 20 October their observed starting offers were €53 and €62. These are excursions rather than bus fares and have different exclusions. Check pickup, lunch and island admission.

Arrival is not the island departure

The national destination page gives a general three-hour La Paz–Copacabana estimate, not your carrier’s operating schedule. Traffic, crossing and stops change the total. Do not buy an island boat on the assumption that the bus arrives precisely. If an excursion coordinates the connection, ask what happens after a delay and whether the boat waits or the visit changes.

Return, fuel and a time buffer

Confirm where the return ends in La Paz and how you reach your hotel afterward. Current advice warns about roadblocks and fuel shortages without proving your route is closed today. Recheck near departure and avoid an immediate flight connection. The national portal states that no scheduled airline serves Copacabana; mentioning its airport does not create an operating flight alternative.

Choose the transport around your next night

If you are returning to La Paz the same evening, inspect the actual island sector, meal arrangements and intended finish. A 16-hour product is a long travel day even when the walk is modest. Compare that commitment with an independent town overnight or the two-day island option rather than assuming that the longest listing is the most relaxed.

If you are staying in Copacabana, confirm that a round-trip excursion lets you finish there and what happens to any unused return. Do not simply fail to appear for the return vehicle without agreement. The chosen ticket conditions determine flexibility, baggage storage and whether a later journey is part of the same purchase.

Make pickup and the water crossing unambiguous

Write down whether collection is from your hotel, a nearby authorized point or an office, and give the supplier the correct address. La Paz pickup does not automatically cover an airport arrival or every property outside the city. Save the contact and meeting instructions offline and allow time to reach a separate meeting point.

At Tiquina, ask how passengers cross and how you reconnect with the vehicle. Keep valuables and documents with you and follow boarding instructions. That passenger crossing is not the sightseeing boat from Copacabana, so check which fares and safety equipment belong to each stage. If the operator changes the sequence because of conditions, ask how the island visit and return are adjusted before accepting a time-critical onward plan.
