A budget you can check

Copacabana and Isla del Sol trip budget: one, two or three days

There is no single admission ticket that pays for an entire Titicaca trip. A tour quote might include a boat and lunch while excluding arrival, accommodation or local charges. This budget worksheet compares current quotes on the same basis.

Updated

The short answer

Add arrival, visits, overnight stays and departure separately. We have not established a universal current public tariff for boats and community charges; request a dated breakdown before deciding how much cash to carry.

First define what one day means

A day starting in La Paz is not equivalent to a day already based in Copacabana. The first needs arrival and return transport; the second can devote more time to the island. Write down where the budget begins and ends, and whether international arrival into Bolivia is excluded. Do not compare a local excursion price with the complete cost of travelling from another city.

These plans count nights at the destination: none for one day, one for two and two for three. They do not promise that every transport connection works on the same date. If navigation, roads or a border crossing require another night, add it before deciding that the trip fits your budget.

The cost worksheet, line by line

Request quotes for your travel date, number of people, currency and language. Record whether each amount is per person, per room or for a private boat. Share only the room cost between its actual occupants; do not divide individual admissions or tickets. A single-room supplement can change the comparison for two people making separate reservations.

Every line needs a quantity and a confirmed price. Leave an unknown admission pending; a blank is not zero. Keep a screenshot or written inclusion list so you can revisit differences later. The useful total is for an option you can actually book for your group, rather than the lowest advertised starting price.

Compare a tour with independent arrangements

Make two columns for the same route. For independent travel, add the boat, any guide you hire, food and admissions. For an organized option, enter the tour price and add only exclusions. Do not count a boat twice if it is already included. An advertised lunch also does not cover every meal or automatically include drinks.

A higher quote may coordinate pickups, guiding or accommodation; a lower one may leave more arrangements to you. Check island time, landing, group size and cancellation terms. This comparison does not select the best option for everyone: it shows which service you buy and which responsibilities remain yours.

One, two or three days: what each night adds

For a local day, the basic calculation is the visit plus personal spending and any transport still required. Starting from La Paz means adding both road journeys and confirming that the programme leaves realistic island time. A price beginning in Copacabana does not cover that difference.

For two days, add a room and meals outside the excursion. For three, decide between two mainland nights or one night on Isla del Sol: boats, luggage and any transfer from the landing may change. Calculate the per-person total after adding both nights, rather than multiplying a day-trip price by three.

Cash: confirmed spending and a flexible reserve

Ask the operator or accommodation which items require cash and in which currency. Carry suitable denominations for the agreed amounts and an accessible reserve for a change of plan. We do not prescribe a universal mandatory sum: we have not established a complete current public tariff covering every community, port and visit format.

Do not depend on every payment point taking cards or on finding a working cash machine immediately before boarding. If continuing to Puno, separate Bolivian and Peruvian spending and check how you will pay for the next stage. An exchange offered by a third party is not your bank’s applied rate; review the specific transaction before accepting it.

Finish with change-of-plan costs

Write the total as transport + visits + accommodation + food and water + confirmed extras + your own contingency allowance. We do not publish supposed universal 2026 tariffs because we could not verify them. The worksheet lets you replace each line with a dated quote in the same currency.

Check what happens if a boat does not sail, the landing changes or a road is blocked. Another night, extra meals or a ticket amendment may fall outside a tour refund. Save terms and contacts offline. Your budget is complete when you know what is already paid, what remains due and what reserve supports a workable alternative.
