One lake, two countries, several bookings
La Paz, Copacabana, Isla del Sol and Puno: a 3–4-day route
A staged Titicaca journey works better than four unrelated bookings. This plan connects your arrival, an island visit and onward travel into Peru. The days are an editorial route proposal, rather than a transport timetable or an operated package.

The short answer
With three days, base yourself in Copacabana and visit the island without changing hotels. With four, add an island night and return to the mainland before your border-travel day.
TITICACA
From the Bolivian approach to the Peruvian onward leg
Schematic connections, not a navigable or road route. Tiquina and the international border are separate stages.

Choose the version by its overnight stops
The three-day version keeps two nights in Copacabana. Four days add an island night and a mainland night after returning, before crossing into Peru. That separates island navigation from a tight road connection. International arrival into La Paz or onward travel from Puno to a flight requires additional days according to your bookings.
Boats and buses are separate arrangements unless a product explicitly coordinates them. Listing every destination does not mean luggage, accommodation, meals and border transfers are included. Use the table as a framework and place your actual reservations beside it.
| Day | Three days | Four days |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | La Paz → Copacabana; mainland night | La Paz → Copacabana; mainland night |
| 2 | Isla del Sol and return; same room | Isla del Sol; island night |
| 3 | Copacabana → border → Puno | Return to Copacabana; mainland night |
| 4 | Not included | Copacabana → border → Puno |
Day 1: road travel and a manageable arrival
Treat La Paz–Copacabana as a travel day, allowing time for the Tiquina crossing when it forms part of your route. Ask how passengers and luggage move across that section and where the bus finishes in Copacabana. A published duration does not establish that day’s operation: roadblocks, fuel availability and waiting can change it.
On arrival, confirm the next day’s boat and keep the afternoon flexible for town and accommodation. A viewpoint climb is optional. If tired or still adapting to altitude, prioritize rest and an easy outing. Avoid booking an island visit that depends on reaching the pier at the last moment.
Day 2: define the island visit before boarding
Set the arrival port, included places and return arrangement before boarding. Yumani is in the south; a northern excursion requires a different balance of sailing and walking. Do not assume a ticket to Isla del Sol permits landing anywhere or walking between north and south without restrictions.
With three days, take a day bag and leave larger luggage only by agreement with your hotel. With four, ask the island accommodation where to land and how much uphill walking remains with your bags. Confirm admissions, meals, water and reception arrangements. A bed reservation does not guarantee a transfer from the landing.
Day 3: border travel or a relaxed mainland return
On the short version, travel from Copacabana to Puno with transport and immigration arrangements confirmed. Ask which border crossing is used and what happens to the vehicle and bags. On the four-day version, return from the island and collect stored luggage in Copacabana, leaving the crossing for tomorrow.
A same-day boat-to-bus combination may be offered, but we do not treat it as protected or use it as the default plan. If buying one, establish the final boarding time, connection window and solution for a late boat. An advertised island departure does not guarantee reaching an independently booked bus.
Day 4 and Puno: documents and local time
Puno is in Peru: complete Bolivia exit and Peru entry formalities at an authorized checkpoint. Peru’s January 2026 immigration announcement distinguishes Kasani from Desaguadero and other posts, but it is a dated festival notice. We do not use it to promise operating hours in November or on another travel date.
Check requirements for both countries against your passport and coordinate pickups using local time. Keep transport and Puno accommodation contacts offline. Avoid an essential separately ticketed departure that afternoon. Your margin needs to cover immigration waiting and the final urban arrival as well as driving time.
Budget, luggage and a change of plan
List transport from La Paz, Tiquina if separately charged, boats, local admissions, beds, meals and the bus to Puno. Check what a package already includes so you do not count the same sailing twice. For an island overnight, confirm mainland luggage storage and collection after returning.
Reconfirm roads and navigation before leaving. Check that life jackets are provided; official advice notes that lake boats can be basic. If sailing is cancelled, keep a mainland night and reorganize the visit. For a roadblock, follow official instructions and change the sequence. A fourth day adds flexibility, rather than a guarantee against disruption.
Boats near Yumani; confirm the landing used by your own ticket.
Puno on the Peruvian shore of Titicaca is the endpoint of this proposed itinerary.
